If you already rushed out to purchase a Magic Trackpad or one of the brand new iMacs Apple announced on Tuesday morning, then it’s time to do the Software Update dance. The company has rolled out a pair of updates for Mac OS X 10.6.4 and Mac OS X 10.6.4 Server installations running on the new desktop models, as well as software updates for those who want to use the Magic Trackpad with their existing Mac.

The Mac OS X 10.6.4 update for the mid-2010 iMac resolves compatibility and performance-related graphics issues, improves compatibility with large-format SDXC memory cards, and adds support for Apple’s new Bluetooth Magic Trackpad. Apple has just posted its Q3 earnings for fiscal year 2010 and the company has once again bested its own records, this time reporting an astounding $15.7 billion in revenue and a net quarterly profit of $3.35 billion.

Apple, which is currently the most valuable technology company in the U.S. and the second most valuable U.S. company overall, reported earnings of $3.51 per diluted share. This is significantly higher than the $3.11 per share estimates from Wall Street analysts…..READ MORE

After starting out with a light-hearted YouTube video about “Antennagate” at the Apple press conference going on right now to address the issue (read our livenotes), CEO Steve Jobs came onstage with a mea culpa: “You know . . . we’re not perfect.”

In fact, Apple knew about the issue shortly after the first phones were shipped, and the company has been working on the problem for 22 days. “It doesnt seem like a good thing if you can touch your phone in a certain way and it loses signal,” acknowledges Jobs. Even so, he is quick to point out that 3 million iPhone 4s have been sold in just a few weeks. On Wednesday afternoon Apple invited several journalists, including one from Macworld, to its Cupertino campus on Friday for a “press conference about iPhone 4.” Presumably the company will use the event to publicly address all the controversy swirling around this product, most notably reports of antenna interference issues.
