Creating a Macworld magazine cover is a complicated process. We editors have to come up with topics worthy of the cover, of course. But then it’s up to our creative team to get down to details, coming up with the right words and images to grab a potential reader’s eye.

The primary job of a print magazine’s cover is to grab the attention of a potential buyer on the newsstand. (While we love our print subscribers, our relationship with them is more of the long-term variety, and they judge us by the content of our issues over the course of a year. The cover itself is evidence of a much more shallow relationship: we’re trying to snag some of the roughly 30,000 people who don’t subscribe to Macworld but pick up an issue on the newsstand from time to time, in airports and Wal-Marts and everywhere in between.)

1. Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs leaps to the top as Apple overtakes Microsoft in value – and once again revolutionises how we consume media.

Steve Jobs changed the way we consume music; now he has set out to change the way we consume everything else.

Publishers seized upon the iPad as a potential saviour of the newspaper industry, a revolution in the way we will consume the printed word that could also do good business for books and magazines, as well as further transforming the way we watch TV and films.

It remains early days, of course, and far from everyone is convinced, but history suggests where Jobs leads, the rest of us follow. It might look like just a giant iPhone, but the iPad turned our conception of a “computer” on its head, and possibly with it the media industry as well.

Hence Jobs takes the No 1 position in the MediaGuardian 100 for the first time, after three years in which Google’s Larry Page and Sergey Brin (and its president, Eric Schmidt) reigned supreme…..Read More

In fact, Apple knew about the issue shortly after the first phones were shipped, and the company has been working on the problem for 22 days. “It doesnt seem like a good thing if you can touch your phone in a certain way and it loses signal,” acknowledges Jobs. Even so, he is quick to point out that 3 million iPhone 4s have been sold in just a few weeks. And, repeating a pervious Apple talking point, he says it is not an issue that is unique to the iPhone 4…READ MORE

Last winter we presented 30 Must Have Games for the iPhone and iPod touch. That garnered your attention and plenty of comments, so we’re happy to present its natural sequel, 15 Must HaveGames for the iPad.

As with the first feature, let us underscore that we do not consider this to be a list of the best games for the iPad, or superlative games in any specific category. Instead, this is a collection of games vetted by The Loop as being fun to play and standouts for one reason or another. So please don’t take umbrage if you don’t see your favorite game listed. But by all means use the comment section below to share with other readers your thoughts on this list and any other iPad games you think are excellent…..READ MORE
