About Iphoto

Everything Iphoto and Apple

I decided to write a post about this because one of our readers was getting frustrated with the inability to “customize” Iphoto. It looks like that’s a common problem among Iphoto users. Thank you for bringing this to light.  Sometimes being user friendly can also mean frustration for those of you who are little more tech savvy and want control. After searching around other sites for answers –  I keep getting the same answer: It can’t be done!! So the solution I  found is basically drag your pictures exactly like the layout, in order. It worked for me.  You tell me if it does, and if does–that’s great!! If not,  you’ll just have to keep experimenting. So here we go. Hopefully I make it clear.

Create a Calendar

Follow the same procedures to get a calendar project started. For this experiment, I chose Modern Lines.

Import Pictures

When Iphoto asks you whether you want to add photos now or later — it’s probably easiest to choose NOW so you don’t have to do much hunting around.

Set Layout

For this experiment, I want the 4 photo layout with 1 horizontal box on top, 1 vertical on bottom and 2 horizontal on the side. I DO NOT want this layout to change—so how do I do it?Basically, Iphoto will arrange the pictures based on what orientation you set it at. So, for example, if I choose all horizontal pictures, you’ll see 4 big squares. So, if you want every page on your calendar to be 4 big squares, make sure you use all horizontal pictures.

Horizontal

Vertical

Iphoto won’t let you put all vertical pictures, what you will get is one large vertical and three horizontal shots. So if anyone finds a workaround for that, please share.

Standard

So you see the other two orientations available. Let’s say you just want the standard 4 layout for crying out loud! You want it on every page. So what do you do? Just select the 4 square layout.

1. Drag a horizontal picture on the top left.

2. Drag a vertical on the square directly below.

3. Drag a horizontal on the top right

4. Finish off by dragging a horizontal directly below that.

normal

I’ve found I could do that in every page without anything getting affected as long as  I went in that order. Again, if you find an easier way let us know and also if this doesn’t work for you, let us know as well! Good luck!

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much!! I’m still a firm believer that the powers that be out there should make it so that you can choose which of these formats you want and then basically lock them in while you add photos, but I’m so so happy that you figured out a work-around! I guess I never added the photos in just that order before. Thank you so much!

Thank you Ignacio, sorry it took me a little while to respond. Here is the article I wrote regarding your issue: http://aboutiphoto.com/2009/12/changing-the-languge-settings-in-iphoto-calendar/
