MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.8 shuts your optical drive up
This was released on December 8. When you start up your MacBook Pro, it might make a bunch of noises. This update eliminates the noise made by the optical disk drive during system startup and wake from sleep on MacBook Pro computers. When you finish installing, run the software update again and install SuperDrive Firmware Update 3. — which reminds me, I should download it now.
