The two new features that Iphoto introduced earlier this year in the ‘09 edition is: Faces and Places. Places is really a neat concept (Google’s Picasa also has this feature – go figure! ) in that it uses Google Maps technology to pinpoint where you took that picture. So, for example, you took a picture of the Eiffel Tower, it would be pinpointed on a map for your to look up.
In order for this feature to work, your digital camera or your phone (Hi iPhone users!) must be GPS-enabled. Iphoto bases your location off of detecting the longitude and latitude of photos you take immediately. However, if you run into an area where you couldn’t get reception, then obviously this feature won’t work. When this happens, you’ll have to manually enter the places you’ve visited on Iphoto directly.
Just like the Faces feature, once you enter a piece of information on your photo, Iphoto will automatically find other photos of that landmark or place.
You can use Google Maps to navigate all of your pictures by placing your pointer over each red pin that shows up on the map. You can also use the column browser to click through locations by country, city or by points of interest. The great thing about Iphoto ‘09 is that you can then publish your own very travel book with all of the places you visited. Everything is almost all automated!
